Modernisation in public policies

UVAL plays a "service" role with respect to the Regions and other central government entities as well as a number of foreign government entities. In particular, it provides specific support to the Regional Planning Departments involved in development initiatives and the local evaluation and verification units as well as central government bodies involved in the planning and implementation of activities in Southern Italy.

UVAL takes part in specific fact-finding activities and preliminary examinations for resolutions of the CIPE (the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning).

Within the DPS, UVAL provides technical support to:

• the EU Structural Funds Policy Directorate
  • in the implementation of the Technical Assistance and System Actions NOP, collaborating, within the NOP, with the central government entities responsible for specific operational projects for providing technical assistance to regional governments;
  • in the technical analysis of specific sectoral issues;
  • by supporting the Managing Authorityof the Community Support Framework and by supplying guidelines and methodological and organisational analyses of all aspects of the evaluation of the CSF;
    
    
• the Territorial Development Policies and Understandings Directorate to set up and carry out preliminary technical examinations to support the Framework Programme Agreements (APQs) that implement strategic Institutional Programme Understandings;
  
  
• the Directorate for International Relations on Territorial Development Policy Issues
  • by providing support in relations with international institutions ( (the following link opens an outside site) EU , (the following link opens an outside site) OECD, (the following link opens an outside site) IMF etc.)
  • by participating in the Balkans task force and the OECD’s work under the Investment Compact of the Stability Pact
  • by providing technical support to twinnings with Eastern European countries
    
    
• Projects, Studies and Statistics Directorate
  • by directly collaborating on the drafting – and sometimes the coordination – of documents, territorial reports and in-depth analyses
  • by providing specific technical support in establishing the methodological approach for projects managed by the Service
  • by participating in the realisation of prototype projects to implement and track during implementation with a view to producing “best practices” to disseminate to the various government entities involved in development policies.

UVAL is member of the Interministerial Coordination and Steering Committee with the aim of improving government capabilities in the management and implementation of development policies, in particular in Southern Italy
